SAINT LEO, Fla. – Despite a rough Monday,
Ainsley Cowart came back to be the top finisher for the UWG women's golf team as the Wolves finished fifth at the Saint Leo Invitational on Tuesday.
Cowart and the wolves shot an uncharacteristic 312 on Tuesday, finishing with a 927 total, and goof for fifth against a decent field at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
The Winston native rebounded nicely from yesterday's trouble with a final round 73, and finished ninth, but that doesn't mean it was easy. Cowart made the turn at five over, but birdied four holes on the back nine to get all the way back to one-over on the day.
It was the opposite for
Maddy Schultz, who struggled on the final day after two solid rounds yesterday. Schultz made just one birdie on Tuesday and shot 79 to finish tied for 11
th.
Just one stroke behind Schultz was
Katherine Densmore who shot a 77 in the final round with two birdies wo finish tied for 14
th.
Both
Michelle Bagsic and
Kamryn Roberts shot 83 in the final round with Bagsic finishing in a 25
th-plac tie while Roberts finished tied for 53
rd.
Tampa won the event, shooting rounds of 298, 300, and 299.
It was the last tournament of the fall season for the Wolves, who now look to the spring championship segment of their schedule. UWG will be trying to repeat as Gulf South Conference Champions this April.
