Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Darrell Redden

Wolves Fall Just Short in Huntsville, Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –  The UWG men's basketball team dropped their first road game of the season on Monday after a 62-59 loss to Alabama Huntsville.

West Georgia couldn't find their offensive flow as they shot 37% from the field and 28% from three in Monday night's loss that dropped UWG to 3-6 on the season.

It was an offensive struggle for the Wolves to begin, but they didn't let their offense affect their defense as Alabama Huntsville only held a 12-9 lead halfway through the first half. The defensive battle continued for much of the first half as UWG used their defense to spark a 4:02 minute 8-2 run to take a 17-14 lead with 6:08 left in the half.

Alabama Huntsville started to find their offensive rhythm as they quickly responded to the West Georgia run with a 11-0 run of their own to retake the lead, 25-17. The Wolves continued to struggle to make shots until, Coach, Dave Moore turned to Cole Fisher off the bench. Fisher checked into the game and quickly connected on two threes to keep UWG close as we went into halftime with Alabama Huntsville up, 29-25.

The Wolves shot 32.1 % from the field in the first half, but West Georgia's defense is what kept them in the ball game as they held a high-powered Charger's offense to 40.7% from the field and 11.1% from three.

Fresh out of the break, Alabama Huntsville hit back-to-back threes to take their largest lead of the game at 10 before Kadeim Jones and Seth Brown-Carter carried West Georgia to a 9-2 run to cut the deficit back down to three. UAH would then push their lead back up to nine before Kadeim Jones completely took over the half for the Wolves. Jones scored 19 of his game-high 24 points in the second half as a three pointer from Jones gave West Georgia their first lead since 6:08 of the first half.

The Wolves wouldn't hold the lead for long as the Chargers came right back down the court to retake the lead with 9:17 left in the game. The game remained extremely tight all the way to the end as UAH couldn't get their lead any higher than five, but they wouldn't relinquish the lead. UWG had a chance to tie the game or win it with 8.7 seconds left, but a turnover from the Wolves squandered any chance of a comeback.

Kadeim Jones led the Wolves with a game-high 24 points along with five rebounds. West Georgia will be back in action on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. home matchup against LaGrange.
