Portalier Nets All-Gulf South Selection

CARROLLTON, Ga. – University of West Georgia women's tennis standout Camille Portalier was honored Wednesday with a selection on the 2021 All-Gulf South Conference Team.

The Tours, France, native earned Second-Team accolades following a stellar senior season, establishing a school record for No. 1 singles wins in league play for a single season and career.

UWG interim head coach Rhonda Bush noted how it is well-deserved recognition for Portalier, who served as a leader on and off the court for the Wolves this spring.

"She's played great this season all season long. She's been a great team leader and is an extremely hard worker," Bush said.

Portalier captured five consecutive wins between Feb. 25 and March 25, recording straight-set decisions in matches against West Alabama, Central Alabama, Montevallo and Shorter and a three-set victory over Lee during that span. For the season, she was 7-5 overall at No. 1 singles.

Playing on the No. 1 singles line in the GSC can be a daunting task given some of the top-level programs UWG goes up against, and Portalier more than proved that she belongs among the best of the best.

"The rankings just came out and three of the teams that we play in this conference are ranked in the top 25 in the country. So to play the No. 1s and to come out battling that every week and to have a winning record against that, it's a great accomplishment for her," Bush said.

Portalier is the first UWG women's player to be named to the All-GSC team since 2016 and the third since West Georgia relaunched its tennis program as an intercollegiate sport in 2010-11. There have been 13 All-GSC players overall in the history of West Georgia women's tennis.
