UWG Announces Promotions with Golf Programs

Selders and Golightly Each Elevated to New Roles

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of West Georgia and Director of Athletics Jason Carmichael have announced a pair of promotions within the UWG golf programs.

Current head coach Todd Selders has been promoted to Director of Golf and Head Men's Golf Coach and assistant coach Kristen Golightly has been promoted to Head Women's Golf Coach.

"Golf, both Women's and Men's Golf, on our campus have been and continue to be important parts of our sports sponsorship portfolio here in UWG Athletics," said Carmichael. "These two moves collectively allow us to position both our programs for future enhanced competitive excellence."

"Specifically, with Coach Golightly we feel confident that she is poised to be a fabulous Head Coach and we are pleased to have her take this step as a Wolf. Ultimately, we feel as though having both Coach Selders and Coach Golightly in their respective new roles will help us take another step towards our student-athletes achieving their competitive dreams here at the University of West Georgia," Carmichael added.

Selders has been at the helm of the UWG golf program since the 2017 season and has guided the Wolves to success in both the men's and women's teams. In 2021, Selders led the women's team to their second Gulf South Conference championship in program history, and just last season saw Austin Fulton become UWG's first-ever representative at the NCAA National Championships for either program.

"This is a major step for the program and I cannot appreciate enough the support we're receiving from our administration," said Selders. "I'm thrilled for Kristen to become the head coach for the women's team as she is very deserving of this."

Golightly arrived in Carrollton in 2018, and as assistant coach has produced four All-Gulf South Conference selections. She has also coached Ainsley Cowart to back-to-back GSC Players of the Year honors in 2021 and 2022.

"I want to thank Todd, of course, for giving me a job five years ago. I'm thankful for him and our administration, our players, and this institution," said Golightly. "All of the support staff around me has supported me and helped me advance to this point in my coaching career."

Both Selders and Golightly are in the middle of their 2022-23 season and the Wolves are set to resume action on the course in the spring.
