Wolves Back In Action Against Shorter

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG women's basketball team will be back on the hardwood after a 13-day break on Saturday, when conference foe and in-state rival Shorter comes into Carrollton for a 2:00 p.m. tip inside the Coliseum. 

West Georgia(4-7, 3-5 GSC) split their last two games before Christmas break, beating Alabama Huntsville at home 58-37 and losing to West Alabama 61-47. As for the Hawks(1-11, 1-8 GSC),  they come into The Coliseum after dropping their last game to Delta State. 

West Georgia is currently ranked 10th in the GSC in scoring, averaging 56.1 points per game. Junior Guard Stephanie Torres leads the Wolves in scoring, putting up 10.0 points per game.  Senior Forward Peace Okeke has also been solid for UWG, scoring 9.4 points per game. Defensively, West Georgia ranks ninth in the GSC allowing 66.0 per game. 


Shorter is the 12th-ranked offense in the conference, averaging 54.0 points per game. Junior guard Derrica McCall leads Shorter in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per game.  The Hawks are currently the lowest-ranked defensive team in the GSC at number 13th as Shorter allows 74.8 points per game, while allowing opponents to shoot 44.8% from the field. 


UWG has dropped the last two games against Shorter, with both games coming during the 2020-21 season since last year's game was postponed. Free admission will be featured for Saturday's game. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
