Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fl - West Georgia Baseball tasted defeat for the first time this season after losing 13-4 to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in West Palm Beach, FL this afternoon.

The Wolves were held to their worst hitting performance of the season, going just 6-34 at the plate.

Jonathan Hickman would make his second start of the season for West Georgia, going 4.2 innings while giving up nine hits, eight runs, seven earned, two walks, and four strikeouts on the afternoon.

The first two innings were a pitchers duel, as the only hit for either team came from the bat of Collin Moore in the top of the second.

In the third, however, the Wolves would open up the scoring. Edgar Cruz would draw a walk, followed by a single by Brody Wortham. After a double steal from West Georgia, Anthony Calabro delivered a two RBI triple into the right center gap to give the Wolves an early two run lead. Sam Ladner would drive in Calabro on the very next pitch, taking the lead to 3-0.

The Sailfish would not go down quietly as they immediately answered with seven runs in the bottom half to take a 7-3 lead.

After the third inning, the Wolves would be held silent at the plate until the later innings of the game.

In the fifth, the Wolves would strand the bases loaded, thanks to a double by Calabro, a single by Ladner, and a walk by Logsdon. West Georgia was unable to push anything across, as a fielder's choice by Moore would end the inning.

Palm Beach Atlantic would chase Hickman from the game with back-to-back hits and an 8-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The first move to the bullpen would be to the Freshman lefty, Riley King

King would pitch into the seventh, but after a lead off single and a walk, Jeff Smith would make his second call to the bullpen of the day, this time to Jenson Barker.

The Sailfish would score four in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to 13-3.

In the top of the eighth, a sac fly by Joe Skinner would put the Wolves on the board for the first time since the third inning, making the score 13-4.

In the ninth, Wortham drew a lead off walk, but nothing else would come in the inning.

Anthony Calabro led the Wolves at the plate, going 2-for-5 on the day with a triple and a double, driving in two runs. Wortham, Ladner, Moore, and Joseph Hill all chipped in one hit a piece.

The Wolves are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Davie, FL to take on Nova Southeastern. First pitch is set for 12pm.
