Wolves Take On No. 24 Tennessee

4/27/2026 10:45:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia baseball heads north to take on the No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers this Tuesday in the final midweek matchup of the 2026 season. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and the live coverage links are tagged on the baseball schedule.

With one more chance to earn their first midweek victory of the season, the Wolves  (11-33, 8-13 ASUN) take on the tall task of trying to snap their eight-game losing streak against a UT team (29-15, 10-11 SEC) that is coming off a series win over No. 13 Alabama.

Tuesday's matchup marks the second-ever head-to-head between the Wolves and Volunteers. Last year, UWG lost to No. 2 UT in a tight battle at Rocky Top.

Despite riding an eight-game losing streak, the Wolves have been on a tear at the plate. In the past weekend's series, the team recorded 32 runs on 36 hits, averaging 10.67 runs per game. The weekend also featured nine UWG homers.

Notably, junior David Bell had a pair of two home run performances to finish the series with four. This achievement becomes even more impressive when you factor in that one of those homers was a base-clearing grand slam. Bell ended the weekend with 10 RBIs, eight runs and seven hits, featuring four homers and one double. This resulted in a stellar .538 batting average, 1.538 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage. Bell's week of play ranked first in the nation in homers per game (1.33), second in RBIs per game (3.33), second in runs per game (2.67), third in slugging and 25th in on-base percentage. Looking at his season as a whole, Bell has recorded a .286 average and .948 OPS with 30 hits, 29 RBIs, 27 runs, 10 doubles and seven homers.

As a team, the Wolves have recorded a .263 average, .413 slugging percentage and .423 on-base percentage. UT has recorded a .273 average, .499 slugging percentage and .374 on-base percentage.

Leading the way for UT at the plate has been infielder Henry Ford. In 42 games, Ford has recorded a team-best 55 hits, 44 RBIs, 37 runs and 13 doubles while also adding 10 doubles and putting up a .307 batting average and a .948 OPS. Against Alabama this past weekend, Ford finished with five hits, five runs and five RBIs in 14 at-bats. Currently, Ford is listed as the 58th best MLB Draft prospect by MLB.com.

Looking at the two teams' pitching, UWG has recorded an 8.67 ERA, while UT has posted a 4.22 ERA.

Neither team has announced starting pitchers, but expect both teams to pitch a few different players. Last week, UWG went with Rowan Park to start. In four frames, Park held KSU to one earned run and he struck out five Owls. The redshirt junior posts a 9.90 ERA, 16 strikeouts and has a 0-2 record this season. UT pitched sophomore righty Nic Abraham in last week's Tuesday clash against ASUN-foe Lipscomb. In two frames, he gave up four earned runs and struck out one batter. This year, he has posted a 5.18 ERA, 13 strikeouts and a 1-0 record.

First pitch from Lindsey Nelson Stadium is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday. If you are unable to make the trip to Rocky Top, the game is streaming live on ESPN+.
