ASUN Action Continues at Cole Field

4/22/2026 11:59:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia baseball continues its home stretch, hosting the Stetson Hatters at Cole Field for a three-game ASUN series spanning Friday through Sunday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, and the live coverage links are tagged on the UWG baseball schedule.

Riding a five-game losing streak and falling in the last two ASUN series, UWG (11-30, 8-10 ASUN) hosts the SU Hatters (15-25, 6-11 ASUN) in a conference clash that has postseason tournament implications on the line. With only four series remaining, the Wolves sit one spot outside of earning a bid to the ASUN Postseason Tournament, while the Hatters are just behind and closing in.

In the last head-to-head matchup against the Hatters, SU took a 2-1 series win, marking their only conference series victory this season.

Looking at team stats, UWG has shined at the plate, posting third-best in ASUN .302 batting average against conference competition. On the other side, Stetson's .227 average ranks last in the league by a wide margin. Where the Hatter's have really excelled is on the mound. Against ASUN competition, SU ranks third in the league with a 4.42 ERA, while the Wolves place sixth with a 5.91 ERA.

In the batter's box, UWG third baseman Patrick McCullough has been one of the best players in the ASUN at the plate. With 13 games left in the regular season, McCullough leads the Wolves in hits (63), runs (32), multi-hit games (18), doubles (11), triples (2), batting average (.380), on-base percentage (.417) and slugging percentage (.560). These figures rank the infielder second in the ASUN in batting average, third in hits, eighth triples and ninth in doubles. McCullough has also reached base in the last 22 games. In the latest series vs Stetson, McCullough led the team with nine hits, featuring a five-hit performance in game two.

For the Hatters, SU has been led in the batter's box by infielder Juan De La Cruz. Currently, he leads the team in hits (41), runs (31), on-base percentage (.487) and batting average (.315). The infielder's on-base percentage ranks him eighth in the ASUN. Looking over his game logs, De La Cruz recorded five hits, three runs and picked up two walks in the pair of games he played against UWG earlier this season.

Moving to the mound, expect to see a similar pitching rotation that the Wolves have used throughout the year. Likely sophomore righty Maverick Torres will open the series with his ninth start of the season. Through 13 appearances, Torres posts a 6.75 ERA, a 2-4 record and has recorded 36 strikeouts. Senior righty Lex Kenny will more than likely get the starting nod in game two. In 11 appearances, Kenny's tallied a team-best 3.75 ERA, has posted a 4-4 record and struck out a team-high 44 batters. He has earned the fifth-most wins in the ASUN, has held batters to the seventh-lowest batting average (.244) in the league and ranks eighth in the ASUN in ERA. Redshirt senior Luke Ridley is expected to close out the series on Sunday. In nine starts, the righty has recorded a 6.44 ERA, a 3-1 record and struck out 42 batters.

SU has yet to announce their starters, but going off past games, the Hatters will likely open the weekend series with junior righty James Hays. In 10 appearances, Hays has tallied a 3.42 ERA, a 3-2 record and struck out a team-high 60 batters. He ranks third in the ASUN in strikeouts and fifth in ERA. Junior righty Trace Hartman is expected to start in game two. Through 11 appearances, Hartman has recorded a 3.68 ERA (sixth in ASUN), a 3-4 record and struck out 38 batters. Stetson has switched their game three starter throughout the season, but one Hatter who has been filling this role sporadically is lefty graduate student Connor Ball. Through 12 appearances, Ball has posted a 3.58 ERA, a 2-1 record and has struck out 30 batters. Ball has not pitched in enough innings to meet the ASUN ranking requirements, otherwise his ERA would be the sixth-best in the league.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Friday at Cole Field. If you are unable to make it in person, live streaming and stat links are tagged on the UWG baseball schedule.
