Cowart Claims Argonaut Invitational Low Medalist Honors

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Make it a dozen for the Carrollton native. 

UWG standout Ainsley Cowart continued her dominance of Division II golf on Tuesday at the Tiger Point Golf Club in Gulf Breeze, Florida, winning the 2022 Argonaut Invitational by three strokes with a 8-over par three round score of 223. The win marks the second time in her career that Cowart has been the low medalist at West Georgia and the 12th time in 16 career starts where she has finished in the top 10. 

Cowart shot a 75 in the first round on Monday and was in fourth place heading into the second round, then the 10th-ranked player in the nation turned on the afterburners in the second round with a 73 to move into a two-shot lead headed into today's final round. Tiger Point played very tough in the third round on Tuesday, as Cowart and one other player were the only players in the tournament to shoot better than 76 in the round. 

Katherine Densmore fired a third-round 82, finishing wth a total score of 243 to finish in a tie for 21st place in the overall standings. Ari Samuel had an 88 in the final round Tuesday, finishing in 31st place with a three-round score of 250. Erica Couch was two strokes behind Samuel with a three-round score of 252 and a 32nd place finish. Kamryn Roberts was the fifth and final UWG player in the clubhouse, shooting an 89 in the final round, finishing in 40th place overall. 

As a team, the Wolves finished in fifth place behind champion Columbus State, runner-up West Florida, third place Arkansas Tech and fourth-place Flagler. UWG finished five strokes ahead of Christian Brothers. 

West Georgia will return to Carrollton to begin final preparations for the 2022 Gulf South Conference Championships on April 15-16. The Wolves are the defending conference champions and Cowart was the individual runner-up last year. This year's tournament will be at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Mobile, Alabama.
