CARROLLTON, Ga. – The best Division II golfers in the Southeast are headed to South Florida, and
Ainsley Cowart is one of those set to compete in the NCAA South Super Regional that begins on Monday.
Cowart, the GSC Player of the Year, is set to compete in the Regional for the second time in as many years, and is looking for an even better finish in 2022 when she tees it up at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Florida on Monday.
Grade Oaks is a course that Cowart has played on this season, shooting rounds of 77, 74, and 77 to finish tied for 22
nd. Cowart is the only individual from the Gulf South Conference in the field, although Lee and West Florida are in the team portion of the event.
The junior standout is one of six individuals in the field, joining 12 teams for a full field of 66 golfers trying to advance to Nationals. No UWG golfer has ever advanced to Nationals, although Cowart narrowly missed out on that last season with an 11
th place finish.
To get that spot in Nationals, Cowart will need to be one of the top two individuals not associated with an advancing team, but that won't be an easy task. The South Region has produced the Division II National Champion 18 times since 2000.
This week's regional begins on Monday, May 2 with the final round set for May 5 in Davie, Florida. The top five teams advance to the NCAA National Championship which is held this year at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Georgia.
