Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of West Georgia Volleyball team dropped their midweek GSC matchup to #18 West Florida on Wednesday night.
West Florida (18-6, 11-0 GSC) statistically has the most efficient offense in the conference and put it on full display as the Argonauts recorded 48 kills on a .472 hitting percentage, leading to their win over West Georgia (11-11, 5-5 GSC).
UWF got out to a 10-4 lead in the first set before a kill from
Desha Van Veldhuizen broke up the Argonauts run for a moment. Immediately after the kill from Van Veldhuizen, the two teams traded 3-0 runs until West Florida broke the set wide open courtesy of a 7-1 run to take a 20-9 lead. From there on out, the teams went back-and-forth, resulting in a 25-14 set win for the Argonauts.
West Florida held an 8-4 lead out of the gate in set two before a kill from
Sarah Pipping sparked a mini 3-1 UWG run to cut UWF's lead to two. Shortly after, the Argonauts got right back in their offensive rhythm, resulting in an 8-2 run, putting the Wolves in a 17-9 hole. Three kills from Zoë LaBreche and two kills from Pipping kept West Georgia in the set, but West Florida would go on to win, 25-17.
Similar to sets one and two, West Georgia found themselves in an early deficit as West Florida took a 10-5 lead to start before the Argonauts' Annie Monaco scored three of the next five points for UWF to give them a 15-5 lead. UWG countered with a 6-3 run that was ignited by a kill from LaBreche, cutting the deficit to 18-11. Back-to-back kills from West Florida broke up West Georgia's momentum as the Argonauts went on to win the set, 25-15.
Pipping led the way with 10 kills on a .227 hitting percentage, while
Taylor Allen picked up six kills on a .600 percentage.
West Georgia will be back in action on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama for a matchup against the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks.
