CARROLLTON, Ga. – Excellence continued with UWG Cheer this week as a total of 13 representatives of the University of West Georgia cheerleading program donned a different red, white, and blue on a global stage this week at the International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championships in Orlando, Florida. The Wolves represented Team USA to win Gold on that world stage at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
"We are so incredibly proud of our wolves representing UWG and USA at the highest level of cheerleading," said UWG head coach Nicole Nichols. "It is a true testament to their drive and determination to continue pursue excellence for themselves, West Georgia and their country."
Last year, several of these same Wolves were on the silver medial-winning Team USA, returning to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in 2023 to bring home the gold. Additionally, UWG alum Asia Chatman serves as assistant coach for USA All-Girl.
See below for a complete list of the current student-athletes and alumni who represented UWG for Team USA this week.
The ICU is the recognized world governing body of cheerleading and through them, the sport of cheerleading received full recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), making cheerleading an emerging Olympic sport in 2022.
