Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of West Georgia Volleyball team dropped the first match of their two-match weekend on Friday after a 3-0 loss to Alabama Huntsville.
UAH (7-4, 3-1 GSC) out-hit UWG (7-6, 1-3 GSC) en route to their win as the Chargers put down 41 kills on a .255 hitting percentage, while the Wolves recorded a season-low 29 kills on a .129 hitting percentage.
Alabama Huntsville controlled the first set throughout, beginning by taking a 10-6 lead early. Kills from
Taylor Allen,
Sanai Young, and Zoë LaBreche kept the set tight and made it a 12-12 game before the Chargers used an 8-2 run to take a 20-14 lead, putting the set out of reach.
West Georgia got out to a fast start in the second set as five straight points from LaBreche led to a 13-8 lead for the Wolves. Down by five, a kill from the Chargers' Caroline Moyer sparked a 10-3 Alabama Huntsville run that gave them an 18-16 lead. Back-to-back UAH errors tied the set at 18 before the Chargers closed out the set, 25-19.
UWG fell behind 11-7 in the third set until a kill from
Desha Van Veldhuizen began a 4-0 run for the Wolves to cut the deficit to one. This would be the closest West Georgia would get in the set as UAH went on to win it, 25-16.
Sanai Young finished with eight kills on a .353 hitting percentage, while LaBreche also recorded eight kills along with a match-high four service aces.
West Georgia will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Montevallo, Alabama for a 3:00 p.m. GSC matchup with the Montevallo Falcons.
