CARROLLTON, Ga. - Last weekend, four University of West Georgia Cheer Student-Athletes competed on the world stage, winning gold for Team USA in the 11th China (Nanjing) Cheerleading Open.
UWG's own Kalli Grace Turman, Abby Wang, Abby Faith, and Piper Horne, along with UWG assistant coach Brian Nichols traveled around the world to compete in the event in Nanjing, China, winning the Group Stunt portion.
"I couldn't be prouder of these athletes and Brian for their dedication and hard work. They spent over 30 hours traveling from the USA to China and were able to turn around and compete a routine that was difficult with great execution," said head cheerleading coach Nicole Nichols. "Traveling internationally is a huge opportunity, and they not only represented our team with skill and spirit but also came home as champions. They've set a high bar and shown the world what it means to embody teamwork and resilience."
It's a continued trend of UWG's cheerleaders representing not only their country but the program on the world stage as back in April, the Wolves had 10 representatives help Team USA win gold in coed at the ICU World Championships.
The Wolves continue to prep for their national's routine for the UCA National Championships set for January 17-19 in Orlando, Florida.
