CARROLLTON, Ga. - On Monday morning, University of West Georgia junior punter Reilly mason was been named the Stats Perform National FCS Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance on Saturday. Later in the day Mason was awarded the United Athletic Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week.
Mason, who punted five times against nationally-ranked Tarleton State, averaged 53.6 yards per punt and downed four of his five kicks inside the 20-yard line. He had a long of 70 yards, which was downed at the one-yard line.
His only punt that was not downed inside the 20, came from the Wolves' own four-yard line and traveled 68 yards to the TSU 28-yard line.
The Sylvester, Georgia native ranks 22nd in the country in punting, averaging 42.9 yards per punt this season. For his career, Mason is averaging 42.2 yards per kick, which would rank third all-time in UWG history. West Georgia's career punting record is held by Christian Ramirez, who averaged 43.1 yards per kick from 2017-18.
Mason and the Wolves will wrap up their season on Saturday, taking on Utah Tech on the road at 4 p.m. EST from St. George, Utah.
