Tennis Falls in Non-Conference Action at Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - It was another close defeat on Friday for UWG tennis as the Wolves fell 5-2 to the Georgia College Bobcats in Milledgeville.

West Georgia (2-3) won one of the doubles matches, but fell 6-4, 6-2 in two of them, but took a pair of singles victories against Georgia College (4-4).

The lone doubles win came from line two, with Lea von Kozierowski and Futaba Saito taking a 6-3 victory. Sophie Mnich and Andrea Medel fell 6-2 in line one doubles while the third doubles of Karla Melendez and Luna Mouton fell 6-4.

The singles wins came from Sophie Mnich in second singles and Karla Melendez in fifth singles. Both matches went three sets with Mnich losing the first set 6-4 before battling back with 6-4 and 6-7 wins to claim a point. Melendez won her first set 6-1 before falling 6-3 in the second and winning 6-3 in the decisive third set.

Lea von Kozierowski went three sets in first singles but fell as did Rebeca Lopez in fourth singles while Medel and Kendall Haden fell in straight sets in their match.

The Wolves remain in non-conference action on Tuesday, traveling to Augusta for a 1 p.m. dual against the Jaguars.
