Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. – The UWG tennis team returned to the win column on Tuesday, defeating the Augusta Jaguars 4-3 in road non-conference action.
West Georgia (3-3) won the doubles point before taking three singles matches to clinch their first victory since opening day. Augusta (4-3) got their points from third, fourth, and sixth singles.
In doubles,
Sophie Mnich and
Andrea Medel fell 6-3 in the top line, but
Lea von Kozierowski and
Futaba Saito took second doubles, 6-3, and
Karla Menendez and
Luna Mouton won third doubles in a tightly contested, 7-6 match.
Mnich won line one singles, 6-3, 6-3 followed by a 6-4, 6-1 win by von Kozierowski in second singles. Medel and Menendez both fell in their respective singles matches, but
Rebeca Lopez had the clinching point in fifth singles, winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.
West Georgia is back to Gulf South Conference play next week, traveling to Lee on Wednesday, March 6 for a 2 p.m. contest.
