CARROLLTON, Ga. – The first Division I recruiting class in the history of the University of West Georgia football program was announced today by head coach Joel Taylor.
The Wolves, who will play their first season of Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) football this fall added 15 players, including 11 Georgia high schoolers.
"We're excited about these new Wolves, and what they can bring to our program," said Taylor. "For our first class as a staff here at UWG, we landed not only talented players, but wonderful leaders that we think can help direct our future in Division I football."
Offensively, the Wolves addressed needs up front with the addition of
Lennon Liburd,
Jayden Benjamin, and
Malachi Mitchell while the Wolves inked a three-star signal caller in Franklin, Tennessee's
Cody Pagach.
Out wide, UWG added
DK Daniel,
Jamarcus Prince,
Jordan Dees, and
John Cineas while the Wolves added a pair of running backs in
Ja'Quan Bentley and Carrollton native
Bryce Hicks.
"I think we have a talented skill group with our wide receivers and running backs in this class, and I'm super excited to get a high-caliber quarterback," Taylor added. "But I'm most excited about the three young men we're bringing in up front. These three will be the lifeblood of our program."
On the other side of the ball, UWG added some beef in the trenches with a trio of defensive linemen,
Cameron Moore and
Andrew Dixon, and
Kourtney Kelly. The Wolves added a pair of safeties as well in Cedar Grove product
Jakyre Horton and
TreShawn Moore.
"Defensively, it all starts up front and I'm super excited about the three in this class to build the defense out," Taylor added. "Our secondary has definitely improved with our new additions."
These 15 future Wolves will enroll this fall and be a part of UWG's first Division I team as members of the United Athletic Conference. West Georgia's first Division I football game will be played on August 31 as the Wolves host Samford at University Stadium. Fans can currently secure tickets now by making a season ticket deposit
