CARROLLTON, Ga. - After leading the University of West Georgia Men's Basketball team to a top-15 ranking nearly all season long, Point Guard Zawdie Jackson has been named the GSC Player of the Year.
Jackson becomes the first UWG player to win the conference's Player of the Year award since Marquill Smith won it in 2018-19.
The junior led the Wolves and ranked second in the league in scoring with 21.4 points while sitting third in the league in assists with 5.4 assists per game on 52|47|85 percent shooting splits. The guard recorded 20 or more points in 17 games and five or more assists also in 17 games, including a season-high 34 points against Union back in January 27 and a season-high 10 assists against Alabama Huntsville on February 17.
Jackson was named the GSC Player of the week three times throughout the season, while being named to the Bevo Francis Award Watch list which is awarded to the player who had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball.
Jackson and the Wolves will begin post-season play tonight when they open up the 2024 GSC Tournament against the Union Bulldogs tonight at 7:30 p.m.
