CARROLLTON, Ga. - The much-anticipated inaugural Division I schedule for the University of West Georgia women's basketball team has been finalized and was announced today in its entirety.
Year three of the Joanna Reitz era will bring a whole new set of challenges as the Wolves leave the familiarity of the past and embark on a journey through the Atlantic Sun Conference and a very challenging non-conference schedule that includes two trips to Power Four programs.
"I am so excited for the season! It's such a unique opportunity to be the first division I program in West Georgia history and what a privilege it is to compete at the highest level of college athletics," said Reitz. "Our team is in full prep mode and we are a group that loves a challenge. We have a tough schedule ahead but we have a team full of tough, resilient players that are ready to compete."
The 2024-25 campaign begins on November 4 with a trip to Gardner Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C. and game two features the Wolves taking on Loyola Chicago on the road on November 9.
November 14 will send the Wolves down I-20 as UWG will take on Georgia Tech at McCamish Pavilion.
West Georgia's first home game in the Division I era is set for November 20 and pits the Wolves against Florida A&M at The Coliseum. UWG will remain home for two more games, hosting Talladega on November 26 and South Carolina State on November 29.
Following trips to UNC Wilmington on December 5 and Western Carolina on December 8, the Wolves travel to Montgomery for a December 18 contest against Alabama State followed by a showdown with SEC opponent Vanderbilt on December 21.
UWG's final tuneup before ASUN Conference play begins is a December 29 contest against Brenau in The Coliseum.
"The ASUN is a strong league with seasoned coaches and veteran players. We know we've got our work cut out for us after Christmas break," Reitz added. "I think our non-conference schedule will prepare us well for conference play and come January, we'll be ready to compete."
League play and the 2025 calendar year kicks off on the road with a January 2 game at Stetson and a January 4 game at Florida Gulf Coast.
The Wolves are then home for a four-game stretch, starting with Eastern Kentucky on January 8, then staying in the friendly confines of The Coliseum for league contests with Lipscomb, Bellarmine, and the return trip from Florida Gulf Coast.
The Florida swing to North Florida and Jacksonville follows on January 23 and 25, respectively, followed by a January 30 contest at home against Central Arkansas.
February begins with the renewed rivalry with North Alabama as the Wolves travel to Florence on February 1 and then continues with early February trips to Lipscomb and Queens.
The Wolves then get three straight games at The Coliseum hosting Austin Peay, North Alabama, and Stetson before the final roadtrip takes UWG to Central Arkansas and to a road matchup with Austin Peay.
The regular season finale brings the Queens Royals to The Coliseum for a March 1 showdown at The Coliseum.
Season tickets will go on sale Wednesday, September 18. Season ticket packages start at $75 when purchasing before October 15. Stay tuned for Wednesday's announcement for more details.
