Softball Splits Sunday Games at Carolina Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The UWG softball team split a pair of games on Sunday, wrapping up the Carolina Classic with a 7-3 win over Wagner and a 10-4 loss to Georgetown.

GAME ONE

The early game on Sunday started sloppy for both teams as after one inning, UWG trailed 3-2 with neither team recording a hit. UWG got their runs on an error in the bottom of the first, and then took the lead in the bottom of the third with three runs.

Those runs scored on a walk, a single, a walk, an RBI single from Jenna Samuel and an RBI single from Jacelyn Lahr, followed by a sacrifice fly from Addison Sturdivant.

Meanwhile in the circle, Samuel was settling in after giving up three in the first, blanking the Seahawks in innings two, three, four, and five. After a hit batsmen and a double, head coach Kristy Burton went to the bullpen, and turned it over to Dixiana Sims who pitched two innings of shutout relief.

Senior Blaire Bizette added insurance runs in the fourth, belting a two run home run to make it a 7-3 contest.

Five different Wolves recorded a hit with Bizette leading the way with the two RBIs. Samuel picked up a victory in the circle, improving to 2-0 after tossing five innings and allowing no earned runs while striking out three.

GAME TWO
Against Georgetown, errors plagued UWG as the Wolves committed five errors in the eight run loss.

West Georgia fell down early, giving up a run in the top of the first at three in the second.

Bizette drove in another RBI to get the Wolves on the board in the bottom of the third. Makayla Register then gave the Wolves another run with a solo home run in the fourth.

Three hits and two errors helped Georgetown add five runs in the top half of the seventh.

UWG responded with a Kristen Fowler double, followed by a pinch hit double from Sky Ramos that drove in Fowler. Bizette then cashed in that run with a sac fly, picking up her second RBI of the game.

Calli Hardison started for the Wolves in the circle, pitched six innings while striking out five and was charged with the loss.

Register had two hits, as did freshman Olivia Slocumb who went 2-for-2 in her first career start.

NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Bizette's home run was the 15th of her career, moving into an 11th-place tie all-time.
- It was Bizette's 18th and 19th career games with multiple RBIs.
- Register's long ball in game two was the eighth of her career, and first of her sophomore season.
