JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The first ASUN road series began on a sour note for UWG softball as the Wolves dropped both ends of a doubleheader at North Florida.
West Georgia (9-18, 1-4 ASUN) fell 5-1 in game one and then fell 3-2 in a game in which the Wolves led before North Florida (25-10, 5-0 ASUN) scored two in the fifth to win.
GAME ONE
Four errors in the series opener hurt UWG as three errors in the second allowed three unearned runs to give the Ospreys the early lead.
Another error coupled with a pair of hits in the third extended UNF's lead to 5-0.
In the fourth, a UNF error allowed UWG to get on the board as an error brought in the Wolves only run.
Calli Hardison pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits and just one earned run over 6.0 innings pitched.
Offensively, UWG had just two hits with Blaire Bizette extending her hitting streak to nine games while Makayla Register picked up the second hit.
GAME TWO
Jenna Samuel gave the Wolves another solid performance in the circle, pitching a complete game and giving up just three runs although none were earned.
UNF got on the board in the second inning after a leadoff double and a later error by the UWG defense.
It stayed 1-0 until the fourth when UWG tied it up. An error put Dixiana Sims aboard and she stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and then scored on an RBI single from Makayla Register.
Sims then gave UWG the lead as she singled home a run on a bunt.
The Ospreys responded right away, leading off with a double before an error scored one and a sac fly later scored the inning's second run, giving UNF the lead.
UWG managed a leadoff single in the sixth but could not get the run in before going down in order in the seventh.
Each team had six hits in game two with Register recording the only multi-hit game for UWG.
