CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball Wolves had their 2025 home opener spoiled on Tuesday by the Jacksonville State Gamecocks as the Wolves fell 16-2 in the first home Division I game on UWG's campus.
West Georgia (6-9) fell behind in the first inning and clawed their way to stay in it early on until Jacksonville State (14-7) erupted for eight in the fourth and four in the 12th on their way to a road victory.
The Gamecocks got three runs in the first on a three-run homer after an error turned a tailor-made double play into two runners on and JSU made the Wolves pay.
After a scoreless bottom of the first and top of the second, a walk was cashed in by Dixiana Sims who doubled home the runner and was then stranded on third after a great play by JSU's Jaci Underwood robbed a base hit from Zekylah Boyd.
JSU got the run back in the third and then the Wolves responded with Blaire Bizette's second home run of the season and 16th of her career to make it 4-2.
The fourth and the fifth were all JSU as the Gamecocks had 10 hits and nine walks in the two fames combined, translating to 12 runs to end the game after five.
West Georgia had four hits while JSU finished with 11. JSU stranded seven baserunners while UWG stranded five.
Dixiana Sims was charged with the loss while UWG used four pitchers in the game.
The Wolves are back in action this weekend at Georgia State's tournament, playing five games in three days.
