West Georgia Drops Doubleheader

ATLANTA, Ga- UWG softball fell 8-3 to Colgate and 1-0 to Rutgers today, bringing the Wolves record to 2-2 in the Georgia State Tournament with one game remaining. West Georgia closes out the tournament tomorrow with a 3 p.m. game against North Dakota.

Despite the Wolves (8-11) receiving a pair of home runs courtesy of Megan Waites and Blaire Bizette, Colgate (6-10) was able to secure a rematch victory after out-hitting UWG 12-8. In the second contest, West Georgia was defeated by Rutgers (10-16) in a pitching duel that featured just seven total hits conceded by the two pitchers.

GAME ONE
Starting on the mound for UWG today was sophomore Kaprice Leonard. For Colgate, the Raiders went with freshman Mikala Ham.

Kicking off the scoring for West Georgia in the first was Megan Waites with her second homer of the season.

The game stayed locked up with UWG holding the 1-0 lead until Colgate hit back-to-back home runs in the third to take a 4-1 advantage.

Following this, Blaire Bizette dashed the Colgate lead to 4-3 on her third home run of the season. This fourth homer of the day was the last pitch to leave the park.

Even with the Wolves continuing to battle, Colgate's three unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth pushed the Raiders to a 8-3 win.

Leonard would be tagged with the loss, bringing her season record on the mound to 0-1.

Bizette led the Wolves with two hits in four at-bats.

GAME TWO

Pitching for UWG in game two was junior Calli Hardison. Starting for the Scarlet Knights in this first ever head-to-head matchup was freshman Ella Harrison.

As noted earlier, the second game was a pitching battle between Hardison and Harrison. These two both pitched the full game with the only score coming from Rutgers in the top of the first.

Through seven innings, Hardison gave up just three hits and one run, while Harrison conceded four.

Hardison's record now sits a 1-6 on the season.

Building on her game one home run, Bizette paced the Wolves' offense against Rutgers, recording two hits in three at-bats
