CARROLLTON, Ga. - Two streaks came to an end in Saturday's ASUN softball doubleheader as the Wolves split the twin bill with North Florida.
West Georgia (10-29, 2-12 ASUN) snapped a 16-game losing streak while upsetting North Florida (33-12, 13-1 ASUN) and handing the visitors their first ASUN loss of the season, snapping their 13-game conference winning streak. The Ospreys entered the series ranked 41st in the country by RPI ranking, and run-ruled the Wolves in the series opener.
The day was highlighted by clutch hitting and a complete game victory by Calli Hardison in a four-run win in game two.
GAME ONE
West Georgia was held to just one hit and committed three errors in a six-inning loss in the series opener.
Six hits and an error played five in the third for UNF as the Ospreys struck first after Jenna Samuel blanked the visitors in the first two innings.
The Ospreys tacked on two more in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-0.
In the sixth, the ASUN leader in home runs, Allison Benning belted her 15th home run of the season to account for the 9-0 final.Â
Blaire Bizette accounted for the Wolves' lone hit.
GAME TWO
After having just one hit in game one, the Wolves rattled off eight hits and scored five runs in game two.
Neither team scored in game two until the bottom of the fifth when UWG broke through. Madison Vandergriff and Zekylah Boyd both singled, and then with two outs, Megan Waites ripped a 3-1 pitch to the right center gap and scored two.
Back-to-back doubles by Blaire Bizette and Shelby Garrett to lead off the sixth plated another run, and then Emerson Miller singled home the game's fourth run. Kaprice Leonard added a fifth run for good measure, picking up a pinch hit single.
Hardison went the distance, keeping one of the top offenses in the ASUN to just one run which came in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly.
Waites led the way offensively with a two-hit game including the clutch double in the fifth.Â
