UWG Baseball Falls to Jacksonville at Home

CARROLLTON, Ga. -  West Georgia baseball dropped today's home contest 10-0 to Jacksonville, resulting in the Dolphins securing a 2-1 series win.

UWG (16-17, 7-8 ASUN) could not keep with the JU (19-16, 9-6 ASUN) at the plate, being out-hit 11-3, on the way to falling 10-0 through seven frames. 

Following the game, head coach Jeff Smith stated, "Jacksonville came out and pitched very well against us, both yesterday and today. They did exactly what they needed to do to win the series and we did nothing to help ourselves. We need to be better in certain areas, and that will start Tuesday night at Kennesaw."

GAME SUMMARY 
Starting on the mound for UWG was senior righty Seth Dudley. Through 45.1 frames, Dudley posted a 3.97 with 40 strikeouts (eighth in the ASUN) going into today. JU started senior right-handed pitcher Collin Rothermel. Through 44 innings in eight games, Rothermel held batters to a league-low 1.78 average while posting a 3.89 ERA (tenth in the ASUN) and 49 strikeouts (third in the ASUN) prior to today. 

The Dolphins opened the series finale jumping out to 1-0 in the top of the second on a double to left field. 

In the third, the visitors pushed the lead to 3-0 on back-to-back JU RBIs.

Dudley was relieved in the fifth by senior righty Dosie Drakeford. JU ended the frame up 7-0 after capitalizing on a pair of RBIs. Dudley finished with two punchouts and five earned runs tagged on him. 

In the sixth, junior right-handed pitcher Bryan Gomez came in for Drakeford before being replaced by freshman Maverick Torres after hitting two batters. Drakeford was tagged with two earned runs. UWG finished the sixth down 8-0 after JU scored on a base hit to left field.

The pitching rotations continued in the seventh as Torres switched out for Mason Phillips. JU extended their lead to 10-0 on a two-run homer in the frame. Ian Moore got the last out for UWG on the mound.

JU went on to win 10-0 through seven innings.  

BY THE NUMBERS
Seth Dudley was tagged with his third loss today, bringing his record to 3-3. 

Through the three-game series, UWG tallied 16 hits and JU recorded 29.

Cooper Prince and Jack Witmer both posted a a team-high four hits this weekend. 

West Georgia scored nine total runs and Jacksonville scored 23 across the three games.

The Wolves hit the road to face Kennesaw State this Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
