Bradford Grand Slam Lifts Wolves to Home Win

CARROLLTON, Ga. - UWG baseball secured a thrilling comeback victory against the Ospreys of North Florida tonight at home, 13-9.

Powered by Blake Bradford's grand slam in the sixth, the Wolves (17-18, 8-8 ASUN) stormed back to overcome a four-run deficit and snap a three-game losing streak by beating UNF (19-19, 8-8 ASUN) in the series opener. UWG scored seven of their 13 runs in this frame. Tonight's loss moves the Ospreys' losing skid to five.

UWG was out-hit 17-13. Jack Witmer and Cooper Prince each recorded a team-high three hits. Carter Dierdorf and Blake Bradford each had two. This marks back-to-back multi-hit games for Prince and Dierdorf.

Brendan Parks earned his third win of the year, bringing his record to 3-2 on the season.

Following the game, head coach Jeff Smith briefly talked about what he saw tonight, stating, "Jack Witmer, Coop (Cooper Prince)... there were a host of guys tonight that had great at-bats. We had a ton of guys contribute tonight. I challenged the team in the dugout, and Blake (Blake Bradford) steps up there and gets a grand slam. That's how you got to compete. I told them that they need to fight in every pitch, every inning, and that's what the guys did tonight. We are excited to return tomorrow and try to get a series win."

GAME SUMMARY
Making his 10th weekend start for the Wolves today was senior righty Lane Pearson. Through 56.1 frames this season, Pearson was tied for first in the ASUN with 65 strikeouts, ranked second with a 2.08 ERA and held the batters he faced to a fifth-lowest .208 average coming into today. The visitors opened the game jumping out to a 2-0 lead after a double to right field brought a pair of Ospreys home. For the second straight game, Carter Dierdorf kicked the West Georgia scoring off with a home run in his very first at-bat. Today's tying homer marks his 12th of the season.

During the second, UWG pushed out to a 3-2 lead after Tyler Presnell was able to score during a double play sequence.

UNF quickly recovered, scoring two runs in the third off of a double down the left field line to secure a 4-3 advantage. Continuing to trade blows back-and-forth, West Georgia knotted the game at 4-4 in the third on a Cooper Prince RBI base hit.

The Ospreys answered in the fourth with a solo home run to grab a 5-4 lead. Still in the top of the frame, UNF extended their advantage to 7-4 on back-to-back RBI base hits.

Coming out to the mound in the fifth for UWG was senior righty Brendan Parks. In Pearson's four frames, he struck out three batters and allowed seven runs.

Following the first scoreless frame of the day, North Florida pushed their advantage to 8-4 in the sixth on an error by the Wolves. With all the bases still covered, Blake Bradford had the West Georgia faithful on their feet when he crushed a grand slam to put the UWG up 10-8. The Wolves finished the frame holding a 11-8 lead after Prince drove a teammate home with a double.
