CARROLLTON, Ga. - It was a series finale defeat for the UWG softball team on Saturday as the Wolves fell 7-3 to the Jacksonville Dolphins.
West Georgia (9-27, 1-11 ASUN) was held to just six hits and committed six errors defensively while Jacksonville (18-18, 5-7 ASUN) struggled defensively as well with three errors, but pounded out 13 hits in the win to complete the sweep.
Both teams had baserunners early but failed to get runs across. Jacksonville finally got to UWG starter Calli Hardison in the fourth, plating two runs on three hits and an error.
Three UWG errors, three Jacksonville hits and a walk pushed across five runs in the top of the fifth, opening up the game to a 7-0 Dolphin lead.
In the bottom half, UWG got on the board. A leadoff walk by Megan Waites, who promptly stole second and was moved to third, scored on an RBI single by Madison Vandergriff.
West Georgia's final two runs in the game came in the bottom of the seventh as with two outs, Dixiana Sims drew a walk, and an error put runners on the corners. Blaire Bizette then singled home a run and Shelby Garrett doubled home another.
Hardison was charged with the loss, giving up one earned run over four innings pitched. Sims pitched 2.1 innings of shutout relief.
Bizette had two of UWG's six hits to lead the way while Garrett's double was the Wolves' lone extra-base hit.
West Georgia has now dropped 14 straight games.
The Wolves remain home on Wednesday, hosting Samford in a midweek non-conference game which is the sixth game of a nine-game homestand. First pitch on Wednesday is set for 5 p.m.Â
