West Georgia Baseball Takes Second ASUN Series

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UWG baseball defeated the North Florida Ospreys 11-5 today at Harmon Stadium, securing the Wolves its second ASUN series victory of the season.

Highlighted by a Landon Weidner grand slam and error-free baseball, the Wolves (15-14, 6-6 ASUN) pushed past UNF (18-14, 7-5 ASUN) in today's away conference win.

UWG finished the day out-hitting UNF 12-10.
Carter Dierdorf, Brady McDevitt and Tyler Presnell recorded two hits each, with six other Wolves tallying one.

After the game, head coach Jeff Smith said, "The guys showed up for the challenge and competed against a very good team. We swung the bats very well. The guys showed great zone discipline and we got some timely hits. We played the short game well and Landon (Landon Weidner) popped a grand slam. On the mound, Seth (Seth Dudley) gave us a quality start and Evee (Evimael Quiles) did a great job finishing it out. I'm proud of the guys and the way that they completed. They rose to the challenge."

GAME SUMMARY

Senior righty Seth Dudley made his eighth start of the season. Through 39.2 innings, Dudley posted a 4.08 ERA with 38 strikeouts prior to today. UNF started junior lefty Kai Etwaru. Through 22 innings across eight appearances, Etwaru posted a 2.86 ERA with 25 strikeouts coming into the series finale.

Like with yesterday's contest, the Wolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. This run was courtesy of an RBI by Carter Dierdorf.

West Georgia held this one-score advantage until a Brady McDevitt double down the left field line pushed the Wolves lead to 3-0 during the third inning.

In the fifth frame, Carter Dierdorf extended the UWG advantage to 4-0 with his 10th homer of the season. West Georgia ended the fifth up 6-0 after Mason Cooper drove a pair of Wolves home on a base hit to center.

West Georgia's scoring run continued in the sixth with an RBI single by Beau Brand, pushing the lead to 7-0. Following this, Landon Weidner crushed a grand slam, putting the Wolves up 11-0. This marked Weidner's third homer of the season. During the bottom of the frame, the Ospreys dashed the double-digit lead to 11-2 on a two-run home run.

Dudley's day ended following these scores as he would be relieved by right-handed pitcher Dosie Drakeford. In 6.2 frames, Dudley struck out two Ospreys and allowed two runs.

In the seventh, the Ospreys scored after being walked with the bases loaded. Following this, Drakeford rotated out for junior righty Evimael Quiles with three earned runs tacked against him and the Wolves leading 11-5.

UWG held on to win 11-5.

In 2.1 frames, Quiles struck out one batter and gave up two hits.
