UWG Concludes Day Two of ASUN Championship in Second Overall

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., - West Georgia men's track and field sits in second place of the ASUN Outdoor Championship with 41.50 points through two days of competition. The team returns to the track tomorrow to close out the championship. 

Some of today's highlights include Abenezer Woellore breaking the UWG 800m record with a 1:52.62, crushing the old record of 1:54.20 set back in 1986 by Greg Holmes.

Matthew Strickland qualified for the 400m finals with a 48.10 time, the second fastest mark.


The Wolves showed out today in the long jump, with three athletes earning points for the team. Godsfavor Adenuga led with a 7.08m third place finish to earn six points, followed by Marcus Thompson's 6.93m leap to place fifth and earn four points, and Gavin Barlow's 6.92m jump to finish in sixth and gain three points. 

After this performance, Barlow's 10.83 second 100m time was the fastest of his heat. Along with Barlow, Michael Willis qualified with a 11.03 time.

Isaiah McMichael earned the Wolves four points in the high jump with a 1.94m leap, the fourth best. Adenuga jumped 1.89m to earn the team two points with the seventh best mark.

IIshmeal Neblett and Kellen Andrews qualified for the 110m finals with a 15.20 time for Neblett and a 15.87 mark for Andrews. They will compete for a chance for a medal tomorrow.

DECATHLON 
Day two opened up by finishing out the decathlon's final five events. In the 110m hurdles, Kellen Andrews finished in first at the 15.57 mark and Rhett Howard placed third with a time of 16.57. In the discus, Andrews' 29.41m throw earned him third and Howard ranked next with a 28.00m mark. Howard's 3.85m pole vault led the Pack and put him in second of the third event while Andrews' vault of 2.85m placed him fifth. In the javelin, Howard's 30.69m mark was the fourth best throw of the group and Andrews' 30.21m mark was the fifth furthest. The Wolves finished out the decathlon strong, with Andrews crossing the line in first place of the 1500m on a time of 5:15.80 and Howard placed second with his 5:17.64. Through ten events, Howard placed third overall with 5456 points to earn UWG six team points and Andrews placed fourth with 5334 points to earn the Wolves five points. 

THROWS
Kelechi Ihekwereme's 13.75m shot put placed him 11th overall.

JUMPS AND VAULTS
Following the three Wolves mentioned above, William Shawley's 6.45m long jump put him 13th and Richard Griffin finished 15th with his 5.67m jump.

After the two previously noted UWG athletes, Shawley's 1.89m high jump ranked him ninth and Corey Rooks' 1.79m jump placed him 11th.

SPRINTS AND HURDLES
Today's sprinting and hurdles events were prelims, with the finals set for Saturday.  Following the two qualifiers, Donavin Butts ranked 10th in the 100m on a 11.13 time and Jaylen Patterson's 11.37m mark placed her 13th.


DISTANCE
Like with the sprints, the 800m was also a preliminary race. Following Woellore's record-breaking run Solomon Johnson's 1:57.15 time placed him 21st and Evan Beasley rounded out the Pack with a 1:58.41 in 22nd.
