Wolves Swept at Stetson in Friday Doubleheader

DELAND, Fla. - The UWG softball team fell in games one and two of Friday's ASUN doubleheader at Stetson.

The Wolves fell 9-1 in the series opener before being shutout in the next game, 6-0.

GAME ONE
West Georgia gave up five runs in the first inning, and were limited to just three hits over five innings to open the series.

After going down in order in the first, the Wolves quickly fell behind as the Hatters' leadoff batter doubled, and then the two-hole hitter drew a walk, and the next batter homered to make it 3-0. Two walks sandwiched around two singles plated two more for Stetson.

UWG got their first hit in the second and plated their only run of the day in the fourth after a leadoff single by Shelby Garrett. A Madison Vandergriff walk got the pinch runner into scoring position and then Addison Sturdivant singled home the Wolves' lone run.

Stetson added three in the bottom of the fourth and then added one in the fifth for a run-rule walkoff.

Sturdivant had two of the Wolves' three hits offensively while Calli Hardison took the loss in the circle.

GAME TWO
In game two, Stetson scored all six of their runs in the first two innings and then had just four hits the remainder of the game. It was enough for the Hatters, though, as UWG had four hits total and did not push a run across.

A walk, a hit, and wild pitch scored a first inning run for Stetson, and in the second, three walks loaded the bases before a grand slam made it 5-0. A single and double pushed across the sixth run for the Hatters.

Four different Wolves had hits on the day, including Blaire Bizette who is now hitting .388 for her career with one game to play. The current career batting average is .376 held by Nicole Yancey.

UP NEXT
The Wolves and Hatters wrap up the series tomorrow in a 5 p.m. first pitch.
