Wolves Soccer Host Hornets This Sunday

9/5/2025 11:52:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - UWG women's soccer continues its four-game homestead this Sunday (Sept. 7) taking on Alabama State at University Soccer Field at 2 p.m. Live stats and video streaming links are attached on the team's schedule.

Someone's losing streak will snap this weekend as both West Georgia (0-6) and Alabama State (0-5-1) are still searching for that elusive first win, with the Wolves' skid currently sitting at six and Hornets' streak at five.

Notably, the Wolves secured their first-ever DI win over ASU, 2-1, last season (Sept. 8, 2024).

Looking to break into the winning column, UWG will need to create more scoring opportunities against the Hornets. Since the season-opener, the Wolves have had five straight matches without knocking in a goal while posting eight shots on target during this stretch. Leading the team in points (4) and shots on target (3) so far is midfielder Noemi Casique, with both her goals coming against Jax State (Aug. 14). Moving to the other side of the pitch, West Georgia's defense has done a better job limiting clean scoring opportunities in the last three matches. This has led to freshman Emily Sanabria posting a fourth-best in-conference save percentage (.796) while leading the ASUN in total saves (39).

Similarly to the Wolves, Alabama State has struggled to create many scoring opportunities this season. Excluding their one goal against Mercer (Aug. 31), their two other scores were in their 2-2 season-opening tie against NAIA school, University of Mobile (Aug. 14). Three different Hornets have contributed to the score tally, Adriana Gallucci, Serenity Safeeullah and Emmanuella Yapi, who are all freshman forwards. It is unclear who will get the start in goal for ASU, as senior Corrine Brookes and junior Kailyn Roselli have both started in three matches and participated in four. Brookes' 0.727 save percentage holds a slight edge over Roselli's 0.560 save percentage.

Kickoff from University Soccer Field is at 2 p.m. this Sunday. Stats and streaming links are tagged on the team's schedule.
