Wolves Hosting FGCU in Thursday Clash at The Coliseum

UWG Faces FGCU in Crucial Early ASUN Matchup

1/13/2026 9:55:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - After a huge home win last Saturday, the West Georgia Wolves women's basketball team now hosts the preseason favorite FGCU Eagles in an Atlantic Sun Conference game on Thursday at 7 p.m. from The Coliseum.

West Georgia (10-5, 3-1 ASUN) brings a 10-game home winning streak into the game while Florida Gulf Coast (8-7, 4-0 ASUN) has won a mind-boggling 58 consecutive conference games as they head to Carrollton this week.

Last time out, UWG defeated Jacksonville in what was the best win of the Division I era in terms of opposing team ranking. JU was ranked no. 146 in the NET Rankings, and at the time of this writing, FGCU is no. 143 while UWG sits at no. 219.

In that win, the Wolves got 19 points from Sydne Tolbert who was named yesterday the ASUN Co-Player of the Week. Tolbert is averaging 14.1 points per game on the season, which is third on the team, but she's scored a career-high 24 followed by back-to-back 19 point games in her last three. Her 17.5 points per game through four league games ranks second in the ASUN in conference-only scoring.

UWG will need more than just Tolbert against FGCU, the league's third-best team in terms of scoring defense. Fortunately for UWG, they have multiple weapons offensively, with the trio of Tolbert, Asia Donald and Jasmine Jones, all ranking in the top-six of the league's scoring leaders.

Donald ranks second in the league at 15.5 points per game while Jones is third at 14.6 per game. Together, the three aforementioned Wolves have combined for eleven 20-point scoring games thus far this season.

Destiny Jones, who recorded her third double-double of the season and 12th of her career against JU, comes into the game as the top rebounder in the league at 8.2 per game. She is fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per game while shooting 50 percent (53-of-106) from the field.

FGCU's offense is led by Michigan State Transfer Sinai Douglas who averages 11.2 points per game. Nay Staton, a fifth-year forward, is second on the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game and leads the team in rebounds at 5.4 per game. Staton has been on a heater of late, scoring double-figures in five straight including a season-best 21 in the win over Lipscomb on Saturday.

The Eagles played the second-toughest non-conference schedule in the country, a slate that included a loss to South Carolina in Fort Myers and a neutral site victory over Stanford.

It's the eighth meeting all-time between the Wolves and Eagles and the third as Division I opponents. FGCU won both matchups in 2024-25 including a 95-62 decision in Carrollton.

Tickets, both reserved chairback and general admission are available and can be secured here. For fans outside of Carrollton, the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and fans can follow via live stats.

Tip-time on Thursday, January 15 is set for 7 p.m. from The Coliseum.
