ASUN Action Continues in Kentucky For UWG

1/26/2026 12:30:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga. -  After knocking off the top-ranked Royals at home this past weekend, West Georgia men's basketball gets back on the road to rematch Bellarmine this Wednesday (Jan. 28) at 7 p.m. in Knights Hall. Links to live stats and the ESPN+ broadcast are tagged at the top of the page.

Since UWG (10-10, 4-4 ASUN) beat Bellarmine (7-13, 2-6 ASUN) in the ASUN opener, the two teams have dealt with multi-game losing streaks, but both recently bounced back with wins last week.

The Wolves' buzzer-beater victory over the Knights earlier this season put UWG at 2-0 in the all-time series.

In West Georgia's recent win over Queens, forward JaVar Daniel made a statement performance in his first start as a Wolf. Through 23 minutes of game action, the big man from Memphis, Tennessee recorded 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocks while shooting 75 percent (3-4) from the field, 63 percent (5-8) from the line and hitting his lone three. Tallying 11 blocks through the past two games, the ASUN leader now has 40 on the season, ranking him ninth in UWG history for most blocks in a single season. Averaging out to 2.11 blocks per game, Daniel is currently tied for 24th in the nation in this category.

Another Wolf who is coming off a week of strong performances is forward Shelton Williams-Dryden. Recording back-to-back double-doubles, Williams-Dryden averaged 21.50 points and 10.50 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the field over the two games. Against Queens, UWG found themselves up 68-66 with under a minute to play, and Williams-Dryden put the Pack out of reach by draining a contested midrange jumpshot and then both of his free throws on the following possession. Closing out the first month of conference play this week, Williams-Dryden ranks second in the ASUN in scoring (20.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.2 rpg) while recording a sixth-best 48 percent field goal percentage. Not only does he place towards the top of the league in scoring, his average ties him for 23rd nationally.

For BU, the Knights are led in scoring and on the glass by senior forward Jack Karasinski, who is averaging 19.4 points (third in ASUN) and 5.2 rebounds per game while ranking third in the league with a 55 percent field goal percentage. In their loss to the Wolves early this season, Karasinski led the Knights with 21 points and eight rebounds on 45 percent shooting. Looking at his game logs, the William and Mary transfer recently fell into a cold spell, dropping a season-low six points vs EKU (Jan. 17) and then recording his second lowest total of 14 against Jacksonville (Jan. 22) before bouncing back with a 23-point performance at North Florida in the Knights' latest game (Jan. 24). With the team coming off a four-game road stretch, Karasinski and the Knights are surely ready to get back to their home gym to regroup.

Following Karasinski in Bellarmine's offensive one-two punch is redshirt senior forward Brian Waddell, who is averaging 16 points (seventh in ASUN) and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting a stellar 63 percent from the field (17th nationally and second in ASUN). In the last matchup against the Wolves, the Purdue transfer dropped 19 points and grabbed five rebounds while shooting 78 percent from the field. In the Knights most recent game, Waddell tallied a season-high 26 points on 60 percent shooting.

Looking at the ASUN team statistical rankings, BU leads the league and ranks 11th nationally in field goal percentage (51 percent), and places in the top-three in three-point percentage (36 percent) and free throw percentage (78 percent). As one of the best shooting teams in the ASUN, BU averages 79.5 points per game and allows 82.5 points per game. For UWG, the team shoots 44 percent from the field, 34 percent from three and 72 percent from the line. The Wolves average 75.8 points per game and concede an average of 80.7 points per game. The Pack's 5.20 blocks per game average leads the league and ties the team for 16th nationally.

Tipoff from Knights Hall on Wednesday is set for 7 p.m. Live stats and an ESPN+ broadcast links are tagged at the top of the page and on the team's schedule.
