Wolves Head to Florida to Face UNF

1/6/2026 1:00:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Coming off the opening weekend of league play, UWG men's basketball continues the ASUN action with a four-game road swing, starting with a matchup against North Florida at 7 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 8). The game will stream live on ESPN+.

Through two games of conference competition, UWG (8-6, 2-0 ASUN) is one of five teams to start perfect, while UNF (2-13, 0-2 ASUN) makes up one of the five ASUN teams still searching for its first league win.

UWG leads the all-time series against UNF, 1-0. The Wolves beat the Ospreys in Carrollton last season 92-72, marking the first ASUN home win in program history.

Starting conference play off with a bang for UWG is senior forward Shelton Williams-Dryden. Over the past week, Williams-Dryden recorded back-to-back doubles-doubles, highlighted by a career-high 32-point performance in the come-from-behind win against EKU (Jan. 3). After averaging a league-best 30 points and 13.5 rebounds per contest last week, Williams-Dryden was honored with ASUN Player of the Week and Lute Olson National Player of the Week honors, marking the first time in program history a Wolf was recognized with this national award. Through 14 starts, the Milwaukee native leads the Wolves and ranks second in the ASUN, averaging 19.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while shooting a seventh-best 47 percent from the field. These figures tie Williams-Dryden for 22nd in rebounding and 42nd in scoring nationally.

Another Wolf coming off a solid showing is senior wing Kolten Griffin. Against EKU, the captain recorded a season-high 16 points and three steals while also totaling two assists, two rebounds and one block. Not only did he drop a season-high in scoring, but his 16 points also came on a stellar 75 percent (6-8) shooting performance. Starting in all 14 games, Griffin averages 7.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, a team-high 3.1 assists and a team-high 1.4 steals per game. Currently, he ranks fourth in the ASUN in assists-to-turnover ratio with a 2.6 ratio while ranking ninth in assists.

Riding an eight-game losing streak, UNF will be hungry to stop the skid, battling for its first ASUN win on Thursday. Pushing the pace for the Ospreys' offense is senior guard Kamrin Oriol, who is averaging a team-high 18.7 points (third in ASUN) and 3.7 assists (seventh in ASUN) per game while also averaging 2.9 rebounds and shooting 47 percent from the field (eighth in ASUN) and 44 percent from three (first in ASUN). Looking over Oriol's game logs, the St. Petersburg, Florida native has showcased the ability to be an offensive force night in and night out. Starting in all 15 games, Oriol has scored 20 or more points six times, highlighted by a career-high 30-point performance against New College. With 46 of his 95 (48 percent) made field goals coming from beyond the arc, be on the lookout for No. 11 trying to strike from distance. In fact, Oriol's 3.1 made threes per game average is the second most in the ASUN.

Oriol is not the only Osprey who likes to take shots from deep. Ranking third in the ASUN with a 2.9 made threes per game average while shooting at a seventh-best 34 percent from three is sophomore guard Kent Jackson. Fueled by his shots from deep, Jackson averages 12.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while totaling a team-high 18 steals and shooting 39 percent from the field. As of late, the guard has been on a tear, dropping 18, 20 and 19 in the last three contests. One of his strongest performances this year was when he dropped a season-high 21 points on 54 percent shooting against Southern Mississippi.

Looking at team stats, UWG has recorded a 43 percent field goal percentage, a 36 percent three-point percentage (third in ASUN) and a 72 percent free throw percentage while averaging 77.9 points per game. On defense, the Wolves concede 80.6 points per game on average. On the other hand, the Ospreys shoot 44 percent from the field, 35 percent from three and 77 percent from the line (second in ASUN).
