THE WOLVES
West Georgia (2-4) is coming off a weekend in which the played six games at home on opening weekend. The Wolves offense, led by Zekylah Boyd and Jenna Samuel, averaged six runs per game for the weekend and slugged six home runs.
Boyd hit .429 with one home run on the week while Samuel with .412 with two doubles and a home run and had a team-high six RBIs as did Madison McDonald. Freshman Ella Oswalt led the UWG offense in home runs with two.
UWG's pitching staff posted a 6.83 ERA on the weekend, and were led by two freshmen. Abigail Helms posted the lowest ERA on the staff at 3.32 over 6.1 innings against Drexel. Cacie Cutright pitched a team-high 15.2 innings on the weekend and had the second-best ERA at 6.26.
THE OPPONENTS
Youngstown State (2-3) opened their 2026 with wins over Gardner-Webb while dropping games to Tarleton State and Gardner-Webb.
The Penguins have three batters above .400, led by Kennedy Dean at .529. Dean had four doubles and a home run and drove in eight RBIs. Lydia Wilkerson hit .444 and Selah Moyer hit .417.
Paiton Murphy led YSU in the circle with a 4.38 ERA while Kelsey Ogin pitched the most innings on opening weekend and was 1-0 in four appearances over 12.0 innings.
Tournament host USC Upstate (3-1) hosts their second of three consecutive weekends this week after hosting last week and defeating Saint Francis twice and Ohio once while dropping a game to Towson.
Three Spartans are batting over .500, led by Talyiah Thomas' .600 average. Ella Christopher hit .571 last weekend while Laney Jennings hit .563 with four home runs.
USC Upstate, who won the Big South and made the NCAA Tournament's Clemson Regional in 2025, leaned on two pitchers on opening weekend. Maddie Drerup pitched 15.0 innings and had a team-best 3.27 ERA. Chloe Poterte pitched 8.1 innings and has a 3.36 ERA.
