CARROLLTON, Ga. - After playing seven of their first 10 Atlantic Sun Conference games at home, the UWG women's basketball team will now take the show primarily on the road for the season's final month, and their first action of February takes them to Jacksonville for a Thursday showdown with the Dolphins.
West Georgia (14-7, 7-3 ASUN) has already topped their win total from their inaugural Division I campaign, and will look to improve on that and make it a season sweep over Jacksonville (14-7, 6-4 ASUN).
The Wolves defeated JU 74-59 at home back on January 10, and had five players in double-figures including a Destiny Jones double-double in the win.
Since that game, UWG is 4-2 with losses coming to UCA and EKU while Jacksonville comes in riding a three-game win streak, most recently defeating Austin Peay on a buzzer beater in Clarksville.
It should be an offensive showcase as the Wolves and Dolphins rank two and three respectively in the ASUN in scoring offense, and are separated by just one point per game. JU's Priscilla Williams, who had a 15-point, 16-rebound double-double against UWG in the first matchup, enters the game as the second-leading scorer in the ASUN at 15.0 per game while the Wolves' Jasmine Jones is third in the league at 14.9 per game. Jones enters the game two points away from eclipsing 1,000 points in her collegiate career.
Both teams have more weapons than those two. UWG has Asia Donald ranking fifth in the league in scoring (14.6) and Sydne Tolbert ranking eighth (13.6), and of course Destiny Jones who scored 12 points with 13 rebounds in the earlier win over JU.
For JU, their most recent win over Austin Peay came with Williams fouling out in just 14 minutes of play, but Carmaya Bowman had 20 points including the gamewinner and 16 each from Tatum Brown and Aniah Smith.
A win for the Wolves would create more separation in the ASUN standings, and guarantee a tiebreaker over Jacksonville. UWG enters the week in second in the standings as the league's only team at 7-3 in league play. JU is one of two teams in the league at 6-4, with the other being Stetson. New in 2025-26, all 12 teams in the league will make the ASUN Tournament, but being one of the top four seeds provides an opening round bye. The ASUN Tournament is set for March 3-9 in Jacksonville, Florida.
UWG and Jacksonville will tip-off on Thursday, February 5 at 6:30 p.m. from Swisher Gymnasium on the campus of Jacksonville University.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
