West Georgia Continues Indoor Season at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The UWG men's track and field team turned in an impressive performance at the UAB Invitational, posting a UWG record performance, eight personal bests, 14 top-10 finishes, five top-five finishes, and two medalist against a competitive field in Birmingham, Alabama.

Sprints & Hurdles
The highlight of the meet came in the 60m, where Gavin Barlow delivered a historic performance. After qualifying with a 6.83 in the preliminaries, Barlow earned a third place finish in the finals while breaking his own UWG record with a time of 6.74. Jackson Connors also competed in the event and recorded a personal best of 7.18.

In the 60m hurdles, Ishmeal Neblett represented UWG and clocked a time of 8.78. The Wolves were led in the 200m by Trey Campbell, who posted a time of 22.29. In the 400m, school record holder Matt Strickland earned fourth place with a time of 48.71.

Distance
UWG saw more success in the 600m as Jackson Connors led the way with a time of 1:27.96, while Conner Changizi added a personal best of 1:31.88. In the 800m, Hyrum Smartt recorded a personal best of 1:57.14 to earn eight place. The mile produced three personal bests for the Wolves, led by Abenezer Woellore at 4:27.30. Aiden Thaxton followed with a personal best of 4:33.23, while Tyler Jones rounded out the group with a personal best of 4:40.17.

In the 3000m, Noah Anderson paced UWG with a seventh place finish at 8:47.07 and was closely followed by Alex Njoroge, who earned eighth place with a personal best of 8:48.67.

Jumps & Throws
In the field events, Isaiah McMichael secured a fifth place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.99m. Blake Davis, the UWG record holder in both the triple jump and high jump, led the long jump group with a mark of 6.18m. Another standout performance came in the pole vault, where Kareem Nazim, the UWG record holder, captured first place with a mark of 4.60m to earn a gold medal.


In the shot put, Conner Changizi led the Wolves with a throw of 9.75m. Marcus Thompson Jr. earned eighth place in the triple jump with a mark of 14.23m, while Nicholas Lane led UWG in the weight throw with a mark of 13.14m.

With two medals, five top-five finishes, eight personal bests, and a school record performance, the Wolves will look to continue their success. UWG returns to action at the Tryon Mid-Winter Collegiate Invitational on February 13-14 in Tryon, North Carolina, which will serve as the final meet before the Indoor ASUN Championships.
