Davis and McMichael Reach Podium on Day One of ASUN Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- After competing in 12 events on day one of the ASUN Outdoor Championships, the UWG men's track & field team tallied 16 team points powered by two podium finishes and currently sits in fourth place overall.

Decathlon

West Georgia competed in the first five decathlon events on day one, beginning with the 100m dash. Current school record holder Matthew Brunner led UWG with an 11.49 finish to secure fifth place and earn 755 points. Kellen Andrews followed closely behind at 11.62 to earn 728 points, while Conner Changizi rounded out the group at 11.79 and secured 693 points.

Brunner once again led UWG in the long jump with a leap of 6.42m, earning another 679 points and a third-place finish. Andrews followed with a jump of 5.90m to secure 565 points. Changizi suffered an injury during the event and was unfortunately ruled out of competition.

In the shot put, Andrews paced the Wolves with a throw of 10.34m, finishing just outside the top five and earning 506 points. Brunner followed with a mark of 10.12m to add 493 points to his total.

In the final field event of the day, Brunner tied for second in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 1.88m and earned 696 points. Andrews finished just outside the top five with a mark of 1.73m and added 569 points.

The final event of day one was the 400m dash, where Brunner secured another fifth-place finish with a time of 53.23 and 672 points. Andrews followed at 53.76 and added 650 points.

After day one of competition, Brunner sits in fourth place overall with 3,295 total points, just 170 points behind third place with five events remaining tomorrow. Andrews currently stands in eighth place with 3,018 points.

Sprints & Hurdles
The first track event of the day was the 400m hurdles, where Zachary Wiggins paced the Wolves with a personal-best time of 54.74 to qualify for the finals. Landon Chovanic also competed and crossed the line at 56.65.

In the 200m, Trey Campbell was UWG's lone finals qualifier, leading the group with a time of 21.67. Vaughn Dickenson Jr. recorded a 21.89, Jackson Connors finished at 22.06, Matt Strickland crossed at 22.12, and David Akinyemi rounded out the group with a personal-best time of 22.24.

Jumps, Vaults, & Throws
The field events opened with the hammer throw, where Darius Mcneal and Nicholas Lane recorded throws of 44.66m and 43.89m, respectively, for UWG. Aiden Willis followed with a throw of 37.94m. In the javelin, Ethan Butler-Paige solely represented the Wolves and recorded a personal-best throw of 43.41m.

The high jump proved to be the highlight of the day for the Wolves, as Isaiah McMichael led the way with a personal best leap of 2.06m to secure second place and UWG's first podium finish of the meet. Blake Davis followed closely behind with a personal best and podium finish of his own after clearing 2.03m.

Distance
The Wolves' lone distance event of the day was the 1500m, where Abenezer Woellore paced UWG with a time of 4:02.24. Solomon Johnson followed with a finish of 4:10.09.
