Barlow, Brunner, & Willis Rewrite History in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The UWG men's track & field team rewrote the record books on Friday at the 2026 ASUN Outdoor Championships, tallying 40 team points through two days of competition behind three podium finishes, three school records, and the program's first gold medal of the meet. The Wolves currently sit fourth overall heading into Saturday's final day in Jacksonville.

Decathlon

West Georgia opened the day in the 110m hurdles where Kellen Andrews paced the Wolves with a personal-best time of 15.39 to finish third. Matthew Brunner followed closely behind with a personal-best mark of 15.94. Following the opening event, Brunner led UWG with 4,035 points while Andrews sat at 3,821.

The next event was the discus throw where Brunner secured a fifth-place finish with a mark of 29.63m, earning 457 points. Andrews fouled on all three attempts and did not record a mark.

In the pole vault, Brunner once again led UWG, clearing a personal-best height of 3.60m. Andrews entered at 3.40m but was unable to clear a height.

The Wolves closed the field events in the javelin where Andrews rebounded with a personal-best throw of 35.41m to earn 376 points. Brunner added 363 points with a throw of 34.49m.

Brunner capped off the decathlon with a first-place finish in the 1500m, crossing the line at 4:42.65. His performance gave him 6,028 total points, breaking his own UWG school record and securing a fourth-place overall finish, just 173 points shy of a podium spot.

Sprints & Hurdles
In the 400m preliminaries, Matt Strickland led the Wolves and was the lone UWG athlete to qualify for Saturday's final after posting a sixth-place time of 48.31. Trey Campbell followed at 49.25 while Jackson Connors finished at 49.99.

The 100m proved historic for the Wolves as Michael Willis sprinted to a first-place finish with a personal-best and school-record time of 10.36. Gavin Barlow followed with a third-place finish at 10.45, earning his second podium finish of the day, while Vaughn Dickenson Jr. rounded out the trio at 10.60. All three advanced to Saturday's finals.

In the 110m hurdles, Landon Chovanic led UWG with a personal-best time of 14.99, narrowly missing qualification for the finals. Ishmeal Neblett followed at 15.59.

Jumps, Vaults, & Throws
In the discus preliminaries, Aiden Willis led the Wolves with a throw of 38.70m while Nicholas Lane followed closely behind at 38.67m. Neither athlete advanced to the finals.

The long jump saw Gavin Barlow make school history once again as he captured the men's first gold medal of the championship meet with a school-record leap of 7.59m. Godsfavor Adenuga added a fifth-place finish with a jump of 7.19m while Marcus Thompson Jr. narrowly missed the top five after recording a mark of 7.09m.

Distance
In the 800m, Abenezer Woellore paced UWG with a time of 1:52.91, finishing just three-tenths of a second shy of his own school record. Gabriel Wrye followed at 1:56.81.
