ATLANTA, Ga.- The University of West Georgia men's track and field team opened the outdoor season this weekend at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech. The Wolves turned in a solid performance and recorded three top-five finishes to begin the year.
Sprints & Hurdles
West Georgia had a deep rotation of runners in the 200m, where
Michael Willis led the Wolves with a time of 22.22, narrowly ahead of
Godsfavor Adenuga, who finished at 22.23.
Jaylen Patterson followed with a time of 22.51, while
Vaughn Dickenson Jr. recorded a 22.64 and
David Akinyemi finished at 22.84.
Ricky Griffin competed in the 400m and posted a time of 54.51. In the 400m hurdles,
Landon Chovanic represented UWG and finished with a time of 58.38.
Distance
The Wolves showed depth in the 800m, where
Abenezer Woellore led the group with a time of 1:56.54.
Hyrum Smartt followed closely with a 1:56.97, while
Solomon Johnson recorded a 1:58.56 and
Evan Beasley finished at 1:58.83.
Relays
West Georgia fielded one team in the 4x400m relay, where
Abenezer Woellore ran the opening leg, followed by
Evan Beasley on the second leg and
Hyrum Smartt on the third leg, before
Gabriel Wrye closed out the race. The team earned a second-place finish with a time of 3:31.77.
Jumps, Vaults, & Throws
In the triple jump,
Godsfavor Adenuga led UWG with a mark of 14.48m, a performance that places him among the top 50 nationally this season.
Ricky Griffin followed with a jump of 14.07m, while
Blake Davis recorded a mark of 13.99m and
Marcus Thompson Jr. added a jump of 13.88m.
In the discus,
Aiden Willis led the Wolves with a throw of 37.27m to earn fourth place.
Ethan Butler-Paige followed with a mark of 36.45m, which earned him a fifth-place finish.
