UWG Baseball Hosts Samford in Midweek Matchup

3/30/2026 2:10:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Coming off its first ASUN road series win of the season, West Georgia baseball returns home to host Samford University this Tuesday at Cole Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m., and the live coverage links are tagged on the UWG baseball schedule.

Still searching for their first midweek win of the season, the Wolves (8-20, 5-4 ASUN) welcome the Bulldogs (12-14, 1-2 SoCON) to Cole Field for their second straight week hosting a team out of the Southern Conference.

Samford leads the all-time series 2-0 after beating the Wolves in both of last season's matchups.

UWG is expected to start sophomore righty Wilson Donnelly on Tuesday. In seven appearances, Donnelly has posted an 11.74 ERA with a 0-2 record and eight strikeouts. One of Donnelly's strongest starts of his career came against Little Rock earlier this season. In 2.2 frames, he conceded only one earned run.

Samford has not announced who they are starting, but expect to see a heavy rotation of pitchers from both teams. The latest midweek saw a combined 13 pitchers get an opportunity on the mound.

Looking at team stats, UWG has posted an 8.49 team ERA, while Samford has recorded a 6.60 ERA. In the batter's box, the Wolves have tallied a .256 batting average while scoring 5.3 runs per game. On the other hand, the Bulldogs have recorded a .284 batting average while also scoring 5.3 runs per game.

Leading the Wolves and ranking seventh in the ASUN with a .362 batting average is third baseman Patrick McCullough. Not only does he lead the team in batting average, but he also leads UWG in OPS (.944), hits (42), runs (22) and triples (2), while ranking second in RBIs (19) and homers (4). McCullough also ranks fourth in the ASUN in hits and fifth in triples.

Samford is led by right fielder Jake Souders with a .400 batting average. He also leads the team in hits (38), runs (24), OPS (1.114) and on-base percentage (.482). Looking at the sophomore's game logs, Souders has recorded a hit in all but four contests, and he has recorded 12 multi-hit performances this year.

First pitch from Cole Field is set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday. If you are unable to make it in person, live video and stats links are available on the UWG baseball schedule.
