JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After Tuesday night's overtime victory in the ASUN Tournament, the UWG women's basketball team shifts its focus to Thursday's quarterfinal matchup against #2 Jacksonville on Thursday night at 5 p.m.
The Wolves and Dolphins meet for a third time, with this meeting coming at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in downtown Jacksonville. West Georgia (18-12) and Jacksonville (21-8) split their season series with each team winning on their home floor.
In the matchup in Carrollton, back on January 10, UWG won 74-59 and had five players in double-figures, led by 19 points from Sydne Tolbert. The junior First Team All-ASUN selection scored a team-high 22 points in Tuesday night's tournament victory.
Sophomore Asia Donald, who scored eight of her 15 in the overtime period on Tuesday, was UWG's leading scorer in an 82-61 defeat at Jacksonville on February 5, finishing with 15 points.
Destiny Jones recorded double-doubles in both games against JU, averaging 13.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. The sophomore had a big night rebounding on Tuesday against UNF, pulling down 14 rebounds including five offensive boards.
JU will be without their star, ASUN Player of the Year, Priscilla Williams, who is serving a one-game suspension. Williams had a double-double in both games against UWG, and averages 15.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
The Dolphins also have the ASUN Freshman of the Year, Tatum Brown. She was contained in the Wolves' win over JU in Carrollton, scoring only four points, but led Jacksonville with 16 in the win at Swisher Gymnasium in February.
UWG's win over North Florida took an extra period, making it back-to-back overtime games for the Wolves and five overtime periods in a five-day span. Jacksonville has the advantage of the opening round bye, playing Thursday's quarterfinal on six days rest as the league's two seed.
Tip-time is set for 5 p.m. from VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in downtown Jacksonville. Fans making the trip to Jacksonville can purchase tickets here. Fans back in Carrollton and the surrounding areas can tune in on ESPN+.
