Midweek Matchup Brings the Wolves to No. 4 Georgia Tech

3/9/2026 11:08:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia baseball closes out its 13-game road stretch this Tuesday, facing off against No. 4 Georgia Tech at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and the game is streaming live on ACC Network Extra.

Coming off a pair of weekend wins over Wichita State, UWG (3-13, 0-0 ASUN) looks to carry the momentum into second top-ten matchup of the season, taking on a Yellow Jackets team (14-2, 2-1 ACC) that leads the nation in total runs (217) and team-batting average (.404).

The Wolves schedule is currently ranked 65th toughest nationally and the toughest in the ASUN.

In the latest series, the Wolves' bats were on fire. As a team, UWG averaged 7.25 runs per game vs Wichita State, which is three runs more than the Wolves were averaging going into that road trip (4.25 RPG).

One Wolf who put together a memorable weekend in Wichita is third baseman Patrick McCullough. In his 16 at-bats, McCullough tallied a team-high eight hits with seven runs and seven RBIs. He is currently riding a three-game multi-hit streak that is underscored by a three-hit and career-high five RBI performance in the Wolves' win over WSU. With only one game left before conference play kicks off, McCullough posts a .324 batting average and an .858 OPS that is fueled by his .529 slugging percentage.

Looking at Georgia Tech, five starting Yellow Jackets record a .400 or better batting average. Leading the team and ranking fifth in the nation with a .500 average is first baseman Alex Hernandez. Looking at his game logs, the 2025 ACC Freshman of the Year has recorded hits in all but two contests and has totaled seven multi-hit performances. He also leads the team with 27 RBIs, seven home runs and a .948 slugging percentage.

Neither team has announced who is starting on the mound on Tuesday. Despite not knowing the starter, fans can expect both teams to have a heavy rotation on the mound.

With the Wolves coming off a great weekend at the plate and Georgia Tech leading the nation in runs and batting average, Tuesday's matchup could be another barn burner for the Pack.
