Box Score 2 DeLand, Fl. - The University of West Georgia softball team traveled to Florida this weekend for an ASUN conference series match up against the Stetson Hatters. The Wolves dropped both games to Stetson today, and the Hatters are seeking a sweep, heading into the final game of the series tomorrow.
The day started off hot for West Georgia (13-34, 5-12 ASUN), as they led the score a majority of game one, but gave up a walk-off grand slam in the seventh, losing 7-3. Stetson (28-18, 13-4 ASUN) had a 9-run third inning in game two, and run-ruled the Wolves, 10-2.
Game 1
There was no motion on the scoreboard through three innings of game one, until West Georgia broke the ice with a double steal.
Madison McDonald was able to steal home, creating a 1-0 lead for the Wolves. An RBI single by
Dixiana Sims extended the score to 2-0.
Cacie Cutright was able to escape a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth, allowing the Wolves to maintain their lead.
This was followed by a lead-off triple by
Mickey Coslor.
Ella Oswalt hit a sac fly, allowing Coslor to score, creating a 3-0 lead for the Wolves.
A series of unfortunate events for the Wolves pitching in the bottom of the fifth inning brought the first score of the game for the Hatters. Cutright escaped another bases loaded jam, only giving up one run by West Georgia.
The game was in favor of the Wolves heading into the seventh inning, up 3-2, but soon fell apart.
A bunt, followed by a wild pitch and a throwing error moved the Hatters into scoring position with zero outs quickly in the seventh. Stetson tied the game 3-3 after this. Two hits, and a walk by Hoyle quickly loaded the bases with zero outs.
Stetson hit a walk-off grand slam to end game one.
Game 2
Seeking an answer after game one, the Wolves struck first as
Cacie Cutright hit a two-run home run in her first at-bat of the game.
Stetson responded with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the second inning, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Wolves.
The Hatters commanded the game in the third inning with nine runs on four hits.
The Wolves were only able to get one more hit the rest of the game and ultimately were run-ruled after five innings, 10-2.

West Georgia will attempt to get back in the win column tomorrow as they face the Hatters in game three of the series at 1:00 p.m. eastern.
