5/7/2026 11:34:00 AM

CARROLLTON, Ga.- West Georgia baseball's playoff push continues this weekend with the Wolves taking on Florida Gulf Coast in a three-game series spanning this Friday through Sunday at Swanson Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida.

After snapping a nine-game losing streak this past weekend with a 2-1 home series victory over Queens, UWG (13-34, 10-14 ASUN) heads into its upcoming road series looking to build off the momentum of the win and a week of rest against the red-hot Eagles (30-17, 13-10 ASUN). FGCU is coming off a pair of series victories over Stetson and top-ranked North Florida and is riding a four-game winning streak.

In the last head-to-head, UWG grabbed a 2-1 series win over the Eagles at Cole Field, bringing the all-time count to 5-4 in the Wolves' favor.

With only two weeks remaining, West Georgia has recorded a .266 batting average, .355 on-base percentage and a .420 slugging rate, while FGCU has tallied a .310 batting average, .401 on-base percentage and a .473 slugging rate.

Senior third baseman Patrick McCullough is coming off a statement performance in his final series playing at Cole Field. Against the Royals, McCullough finished the weekend with 11 hits, seven runs, seven RBIs, three doubles and one homer in 14 at-bats. This becomes even more impressive when you realize that the senior accounted for 14 of the Wolves 30 runs this weekend (47 percent). Currently, he leads the team in hits (83), runs (42), doubles (17), triples (2), OPS (1.062), slugging (.613), on-base percentage (.449) and batting average (.417). These figures rank the senior first in the ASUN in hits and batting average while placing him second in doubles, tied for fourth in triples, sixth in OPS and eighth in slugging and on-base percentage. McCullough has also reached base in the last 29 consecutive games. This week of play earned him ASUN Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Looking at FGCU, six different Eagles have recorded a .300 or better batting average. One player putting up solid numbers in the batter's box is infielder Javier Gorostola. Currently, he leads the team in hits (72), RBIs (56), OPS (1.124), on-base percentage (.457) and batting average (.387) despite coming off a cold weekend in which he went 2-for-9 at the plate against Stetson.

On the mound, UWG has recorded an 8.72 ERA, while FGCU has posted a 4.52 ERA,

While neither team has announced its starters, fans can expect to see a bunch of different Wolves on the mound against FGCU. He currently posts a 8.20 ERA, has struck out 19 batters and posted a 2-2 record. Another Wolf coming off a solid weekend on the mound is senior Lex Kenny. Pitching in 6.1 innings, Kenny struck out six batters and conceded three earned runs vs QU. He currently posts a team-best 4.73 ERA, 53 strikeouts and a 4-4 record.

For the Eagles, fans can expect to see two-way player Evan Dempsey on the mound at some point. He currently posts a 3.39 ERA, 97 strikeouts and a 4-2 record.
