CLEMSON, S.C. - A fourth-place finish and two individual top-10s including the tournament's runner-up made for a good start for the UWG women's golf team as they began the 2026-27 campaign at the Tiger Classic in Clemson.
The Wolves, who shot an even-par round as a team and led after 18 holes, were eventually bested by 45th-ranked Clemson, Augusta, and East Carolina who all ranked withing the top-105 in 20256-26.
Leading the way on Monday in the one-day, 36-hole event was Emma Baier. The Quito, Ecuador native made seven birdies on the day and led the field in fewest bogeys with just three. Baier shot 72 in round one before a bogey-free 68 in round two, setting a new career-best at UWG. She finished one shot behind Augusta's Sarah Walker who claimed individual medalist honors.
Sophomore Sophie Dhaliwal tied her career-best in round one, shooting a two-under 70. She briefly got to four-under for the tournament midway through the second round, but finished at even-par for the event and notched a seventh-place finish.
Amalia Ortega made her UWG debut with an opening round 71 and shot 78 in round two to finish in 24th place individually. Alba Cáliz Rejas also debuted in Clemson on Monday and opened with a 75 and finished with a 76. The native of Madrid, Spain took 34th place individually.
Rounding out the lineup was true freshman Myla Rookard who shot 81 and 84 in her first collegiate action to finish 50th.
Playing as individuals,
Sofia Mondragon and
Anna Olesen shot rounds of 81 and 82 respectively to open the event and then bounced back with solid afternoon rounds. Mondragon made six birdies in round two and shot 70 while Olesen shot even-par 72. It was a 34th-place finish for Mondragon while Olesen finished in 41st place.
Clemson won the event with a three-over total, besting the Wolves by just five shots.
UWG's next action is set for September 14-15 at The Velvet in Paducah, Kentucky.
