West Georgia (0-2) is in the midst of a three-game road trip while Arkansas State (0-1) is set for their home opener at Centennial Bank Stadium. Both teams are coming off of road losses as the Wolves fell at Kennesaw State and Arkansas State dropped a game at Memphis in their season opener.
Saturday will mark the Wolves' first contest against Arkansas State, but it's the 38th time they have traveled to the Natural State and are 15-22 all-time when playing in Arkansas.
The Wolves will look to jump start the offense after it was limited to just 160 yards in the Kennesaw State loss. Third down has been the biggest issue for the Wolves as UWG is 2-of-23 on third downs through two games this season.
Defensively, UWG gave up 47 points to Kennesaw, but did record the first interception of the season as Justin Wilson picked off a KSU passer for his first career pick.
West Georgia's defense is led in tackles by the linebacker duo of Andrew Ruffin and Lucas Naquin. Ruffin has 14 tackles through two games while Naquin has recorded 13.
UWG will have their hands full with Arkansas State who is led by Texas transfer Trey Owens at quarterback. Owens threw for 325 yards in his A-State debut but the Tigers picked off Owens four times.
ASU still put up 434 yards of total offense at Memphis despite the four turnovers, adding 109 on the ground.
Defensively, A-State had five players record at least six tackles in the loss at Memphis, including Preseason All-Sun Belt selection AG McGhee. Linebacker Robert Stevens III led the Red Wolves with nine tackles in the Memphis game.
UWG senior wideout TJ Lockley enters Saturday's game needing 69 yards to eclipse the 1,000 career receiving yard mark, and would become the first wideout to do so in a UWG uniform since LaPerion Perry in 2023.
Saturday's game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. ET from Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
