MARTIN, Tenn.- West Georgia Volleyball (3-6) makes the six-hour journey northwest to Martin, Tennessee to compete in UT-Martins Skyhawk Classic this weekend. During the first day of competition (Sept. 18), the Wolves are set to face Arkansas Pine-Bluff and UT-Martin at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The following day (Sept. 19) UWG will re-match with UT-Martin facing them again at 12 p.m. All live coverage links are tagged on the UWG volleyball schedule.
Head coach Adam Milewski's squad is coming off a solid performance in the UWG Volleyball Classic, going 2-1 over the weekend after snagging wins over Gardner-Webb and LSU-New Orleans, before falling to in-state foe, Mercer in five sets.
Leading the Wolves is redshirt-freshman Brooke McCall. The Charlotte, NC native leads the team in kills with 117, and eight of her nine games have resulted in over 10+ kills, and averages 3.44 kills-per-set, third in the UAC. She recorded a career high 21 kills versus Alabama A&M in the Kennesaw State Tri-Match. Grace-Blythe Cornett is behind her with 107 kills and Valiree Schmus with 97 kills on the season thus far.
Defensively, redshirt-freshman Maddy Kirmer has been a star-standout, recording 22 blocks on the season thus far, nearly one block per-set. She recorded her career high in blocks versus Alabama A&M, blocking the bulldogs five times in the match. Close behind is freshman Montenegro native, Milena Ćetković. Ćetković has 20 blocks on the season and recorded a career-high six this past weekend versus Gardner-Webb.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-7): Arkansas-Pine Bluff is 3-7 on the season thus far, taking wins over South Carolina State, Erskine College, and Chicago State. Their seven losses have all been 3-0 sweeps against the Golden Lions. Senior Ashanti Butler leads the team with 72 kills on the season and boasts a .247 hitting percentage and has recorded 20 blocks, both the highest on the team. Arkansas Pine-Bluff is led by fifth-year head coach Gabrielle Floyd. This is UWG second time ever facing Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the first time coming in 2024 when the Wolves swept the Golden Lions in the Gamecock Classic in Jacksonville, Alabama.
UT-Martin (0-6): UT-Martin is led by 12th year head coach Jaclynn Wilson; the Skyhawks are 0-6 on the season so far. Leading the Skyhawks is sophomore Sophir Diouf, a transfer from Southern. Diouf currently leads UT-Martin in kills with 59 and blocks with ten. She has had four games this season where she has tallied 10+ blocks. West Georgia is 1-0 versus UT-Martin all-time, taking the match last season in a 3-0 sweep. The Skyhawks face During last season's match, both Schmus and Cornett matched each other for 12 kills apiece.
