Carrollton, GA - The 2013 Gulf South/Sunshine State Crossover started on a sour note for the UWG volleyball squad, as the Wolves fell 3-0 to SSC opponent Lynn in the afternoon session of the first day on Friday at The Coliseum.
Senior #
Emily Reul# was the only UWG player in double-figures in kills for the Wolves on the afternoon, picking up 12 kills in the match. Junior #
Tiesha Alston# had a solid game individually with nine kills and no errors with a hitting percentage of .692 on the afternoon.
The two teams matched each other shot-for-shot for the first 14 points, with neither team gaining a decided advantage, but over the final half of the set, the Knights outscored West Georgia 11-7 to take a 25-21 victory and a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set was the back-breaker for the Wolves, though, as UWG led 19-11 before Lynn reeled off a 14-3 run to take a 25-22 win and a two sets to none lead.
In the third and final set, Lynn used that momentum to build a 20-12 lead and then held off a late charge from the Wolves to take a 25-19 win and the match.
#
Melissa Holt# had 21 digs in the match, and the senior now has 1,339 career digs. The Newport News, VA native needs 76 digs to become the all-time leader in West Georgia history in that category.
